Report Text

Report text is a text wich describe the way things are, with reference to a range of natural, manmade, and social phenomena in our environment. Its social purpose is presenting information about something. They generally describe an entire class of things, whether natural or made : mammals, the planets, rocks, plants, countries or region , culture, transportation, and so on.

Generic Structure of Report Text

1. General Classification
It is an opening, for example : Spiarrow are birds.

2. Description
It is a description of phenomena, including terms of parts, qualities, habits, or behaviors.

Language Features of Report Text

Use of general nouns. Examples :rabbits, rather than particular nouns, e.g. our rabbit.
Use of relating vers to describe features. Example : Molecules are tiny particles.
Use some of action verbs when describing behavior. Example : Emus cannot fly.
Use of timeless present tense to indicate facts or habits. Example : Tropical cyclones always begin over the sea.
Use of technical terms. Example : Isobars are lines drawn on a weather map.
Use of paragraphs with topic sentences to organize bundles of information : repeated naming of the topic as the beninning focus of the clause.

Language features of Report Text

1. Present tense
The present tense is a grammatical tense whose principal function is to locate a situation or event in present time. These are the formulas for present tense.

2. Singular/Plural Nouns
These are formulas for how to use plural form to a noun.
a. For the plural form of most nouns, simply add "-s"
Examples:

Bottle : bottles
Cup : cups
Pencil : pencils
Desk : desks
Sticker : stickers
Window : windows

b. For nouns that end in "ch", "x", or "s", add "-es"
Examples:

Box : boxes
watch : watches
Class : classes
Bus : buses

c. For nouns ending in "f" or "fe", Change "f" to "v" and add "-es"

Leaf : leaves
Life : lives

d. Some nouns are exlusive and have different plural forms.

e. Nouns ending in "y" preceded by a consonant, the plural is formed by changing "y" to "i" and add "-es"

If we set up a program, the computer can provide a program, the computer can do all this work automatically without further help or instruction.

A computer stores and handles numbers. The numbers may be mathematical formulas or columns of figures. The numbers may also be codes that stand for letters of the alphabet, words, or instructions to the computer.
